I am a staff writer for the Enquirer-Journal Newspaper in Monroe, North Carolina.
The Enquirer-Journal (E-J) is a hyper-local publication focused on Union County which is less than an hour’s drive southeast of Charlotte. The county spans 14 municipalities.
As a general assignment staff writer, it’s my job to cover topics with a connection to Union County and cover local events. Too, I ensure equal attention is given to all municipalities.
I began writing for the Enquirer-Journal in July of 2018. Nine months prior, I graduated from Winthrop University (Rock Hill, South Carolina) with a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication.
While working for the E-J, I wrote two articles featured in Okra magazine.
The first was published in March of 2019 in their “Enduring Traditions” issue number. It explained why people should visit historic York, South Carolina. The second article was published in issue number seven titled “Uniquely Southern.” Through the voices of Waxhaw, North Carolina natives, it shared how the town is performing a juggling act in trying to keep its small town charm while experiencing exponential population growth in the last decade.
I am from Monroe, and though that may cause some to question my ability to be objective – it has not. Writing for the E-J has provided me with a new perspective on the City of Monroe and Union County.
As I meet new people, cover local events and learn about county history, I am able to see both sides – what makes Union County great and where it could improve.
